Worship Ministry

The Vision for Worship

At Tempe Church, we believe that every moment spent directing our thoughts and emotions and bodies toward God is a moment of worship. We want weekly space set aside to gather set as a community and worship together to encourage and propel us towards this intimacy with God in every moment. When you choose to use your gifts, voice, and time to lead us in this gathering each week, you are directing our community toward God's heart.

The volunteer opportunities for our Worship Ministry are divided into three categories: Hospitality, Guidance, and Administration. Each role is essential!

Guidance

Prayer Guides

Musicians & Vocalists

Musicians & Vocalists

One of the most important practices we engage in when we gather for worship is prayer. When you volunteer to lead our prayer at the close of worship, you are guiding our community in conversation with God. The prayer is offered after our announcements and allows us to take a moment to reflect with God on the lessons we received from our time of worship, pray on behalf of one another, and encourage us to embody Jesus's love in our community.

There are two initial steps to becoming a Prayer Guide:

1. The first is to read this guide that will help you direct us in prayer. The guide offers prompts to help you craft this time of prayer.

2. The second step is to sign up to be a prayer guide using the link below for a minimum of two upcoming Sundays.

Musicians & Vocalists

We believe that music is a powerful avenue through which we can connect with God and experience his presence. You will notice that our musicians and vocalists represent a variety of musical styles and we believe this diversity is a gift to our community. Are you a musician or vocalist who would like to add your own music?

The first step to becoming a part of our team of musicians and vocalists is to complete our interest form. You can find the link to the form below.

Teachers

Communion Guides

Communion Guides

A central part of the space we cultivate when we gather for worship is study of the Bible. We celebrate every opportunity to deepen our understanding of who God is and our identity as beloved children of God. This primarily happens through the sermon, or message, during worship and the Bible class after worship for adults. If you feel that you are invited by God to be a teacher or serve alongside as a co-teacher, the first step is to reach out to Michael through email.

Communion Guides

Communion Guides

Communion Guides

Each week, we are guided by a member of our community in remembrance of Jesus's body and blood as we share the sacred communion meal together.

We take communion to honor Jesus’s words in the gospel of John: “This do in remembrance of me.” He spoke these words shortly before his arrest and crucifixion. Jesus was referring to the portion of the Passover meal that he had just eaten with his disciples, sharing bread that represents his body, and wine, which represents his blood. This meal helps to remind Christians of Jesus’s life, death, and resurrection. It also serves as time to consider how we ought to follow Jesus in his example of self-sacrifice. We do this in light of those believers who participate with us in this meal, both locally and globally.

If you are interested in guiding us as we share this meal on Sundays, the first step is to email Michael and express your interest.

Youth & Family Ministry

The Vision

We believe that every member of our community, no matter their age, is an essential part of the body of Christ. We want to nurture a desire for deep connection with Jesus at every age. A crucial part of this effort is to create spaces for parents, grandparents, and caregivers to thrive and feel supported as they care for their children and teens.

For our youth group, we try to cultivate an atmosphere of fun, trust, and safety. We want our teens to know that church can be a place where they can ask questions and be supported as they grow in their love of God.

Parenting & Marriage

We want to support those who serve as caregivers and parents as they undertake the crucial role of loving and guiding children in their own journey with God. We want to remove the barriers that keep families isolated from one another and create a supportive and nurturing space where we encourage all our children to thrive. If you share this desire, we invite you to partner with us. You can email Hannah Parmelee at hannah.parmelee@tempechurch.org if you are interested in serving this part of our community.

We also want to ensure that the unique marriage relationship is nurtured and deepened through the participation of married couples in our community. We want marriages to thrive and find church to be a place where spouses can grow in Christ together. If you are interested in serving our married couples, reach out to Hannah Parmelee at hannah.parmelee@tempechurch.org.

Spiritual Transformation Ministries

The Vision

Our primary purpose as a community is to deepen our individual and communal relationships with God. We believe that this relationship is the source of transformation within ourselves and in our communities. While all areas of our church are focused on this central goal, our Spiritual Transformation Ministries are specifically designed to anchor our entire community in life with God.

Creative Arts

We value the creative abilities that God cultivates in the members of our community. Through the creative arts, we infuse our space with a spirit of invitation and expand our awareness of God's beauty. Whether you are a poet, writer, photographer, painter, potter, or baker, etc,, we welcome you into conversation so we can discover how your gifts can serve others and God!

If you are interested in serving through the creative arts, email Claire at claire.allensworth@tempechurch.org

Special events

Our life with God is nurtured through intentional rhythms. We create daily, weekly, monthly, yearly rhythms and habits that draw us into a deeper relationship with God. These rhythms are communal as well as individual. Each year, we encourage our community to participate in season rhythms like Advent, Lent, and Easter as avenues for us to journey alongside the rhythms of Jesus's life.

These seasonal focuses are often accompanied by wonderful events and special activities. We always need volunteers who are excited to make these events possible.

Use the link below to access our Special Events Volunteer sign up. It will be updated when we have new opportunities for these seasonal rhythms of our life with God.

Foxtail Ministry

In a world where Creation and the most vulnerable are often exploited for economic means, we desire to be a community in which humans, the land, and nonhumans may flourish through our life together.

We do this through caring for our community garden, conversations on faith and sustainability, communal habits and practices, education, and neighborhood and ASU outreach. At Foxtail we believe that God invites us into a fuller life with him through the care of our communities and that we carry a responsibility to steward the land we live on and with in such a way that humans and Creation may live in a reconciled relationship with each other.

We invite you to join us in making this vision possible!
