CURRENT BIBLE CLASSES

Adults
***beginning Sunday, August 8, 2010 and continues through September 5, 2010
Topic
: Colossians
Teacher: Don Selvey
Location: Front of Auditorium

Beginning August 8, and continuing for about four weeks, we will be studying Paul’s Letter to the church in Colossae.

As was common in the Pauline Letters, the Apostle Paul had a very specific reason for writing to that group of new Christians: A new philosophy was emerging that denied the Lordship of Jesus.  In order to definitively end what has become to be known as the Colossian Heresy, Paul exalts Christ as Lord.

There is very direct application of this writing and the principles Paul establishes to us in post-modern Tempe, Arizona.  We, like the Colossians, live in an environment in which the Lordship of Jesus is often questioned or ignored, and the path to the Father is represented by some to be obscure – made known to only a lucky few.  However, we are reconciled by Christ.  Our home in the Kingdom is no mystery.

Join us for this brief study of the Colossian Heresy, and the exaltation of Christ Jesus as Lord.

Adults
Topic: Equipping in Ministry Workshop: Toolbox Training
Teacher: Steve Tyree
Location: Rear of Auditorium

/files/tool1171429box3.JPG
Description: If you are involved in any area of ministry you are invited to join us Sunday Mornings at 9:30am in July and August.  We will be thinking of our congregation as a toolbox and each of our gifts as tools contained within.  We will work together to sharpen our individual skills and consider how the Spirit of God uses all of us as instruments for His will and purpose.  Too many people agree to fill a position or accept a title in the church and never feel prepared to reach their potential.  This workshop will invite all participants in the Kingdom work of God to be encouraged and inspired.  It is my prayer that each of us will feel more confident and competent to carry out the work God has given us.  Consider Ephesians 4:11-16, “It was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers to prepare God's people ."  Join us as we gather together to grow more unified and built up to further mature in wisdom of the Spirit and seek the fullness of Christ.

UPCOMING BIBLE CLASSES

Adults
***beginning Sunday, October 17, 2010 and continues through February 2011
Topic
: "A Holiness Safari" The Realistic Life in Christ: A Test of Wills--The Spirit, Satan, and You
Teacher: Ruby Howard
Location: Rear of Auditorium
/files/holiness.jpg
Description: The desire of every child of God should be to pursue a life of holiness through walking after the Holy Spirit. Yet, the reality of enjoying a spiritually-energizing journey with the Spirit eludes many of God’s most devoted children who unwittingly allow Satan to frustrate spiritual resolves, complicate lofty plans, and steal their joy. I’m convinced that much of the fault lies in our inability to realistically make use of the Holy Spirit's power in us and our ignorance of Satan and his wiles. The power of the Spirit is vital to our ability to live the fulfilling, victorious life that is the heritage of every child of God as we impact the unsaved world for Him. Innovative methods, powerful human resolves, and benevolent intentions are no substitute for a dynamic life through which the Spirit's power is evident. The Prophet Zechariah eloquently says, " 'Not by might [human might]nor by power [human effort], but by my Spirit' says the Lord Almighty" (Zech. 4:6). This series of lessons acquaint us with the Holy Spirit's role in the total experience of the Christian—from the dawning of faith, through justification, regeneration, sanctification and its ongoing process ( the "holiness safari").

Paul, in Romans, chapter 6, charts the path we must take in order to be released from the power of sin and delivered from defeat in our walk with God. In this powerful chapter, Paul makes the vital connection between our unshakable faith in the Word of God and the power of the Holy Spirit to enable us to put that faith to work. Paul makes clear that we have already been delivered from death through co-death with Christ.  Yet, a vast majority of us [Christians] take upon ourselves the impossible task of attempting to crucify the flesh.  This produces one of two things: (1) Excessive pride [legalistic sanctimony] or (2) increasing discouragement over our spiritual condition when our flesh fails to respond to self-effort. To develop a personal awareness of the Holy Spirit’s power and how it is released within to totally transform us through God’s marvelous grace, is the goal of this series of lessons. The lessons are designed to enlighten sincere seekers of truth while supplying “hands on” tools to equip us for our holiness safari.

God, in Zechariah 4:6, says,  " ' Not by might [human effort] nor by power [human power], but by my Spirit [The Holy Spirit],’ says the Lord Almighty." This series of lessons show how the personal power walk [ walking after the Spirit] of each believer and the corporate power walk [walking after the Spirit] of the church combine to exert a powerful impact on the unsaved world as we become channels for God's love, channels for His grace, channels for His forgiveness, and channels for His salvation.

We hope you'll join us for this series.
