Steve Tyree, Equipping Minister
Steve joins the Tempe Church family after serving as the Campus Minister and Administrative Minister at Greenwood Park Church of Christ in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He has also worked as a youth minister and preaching minister in south central Kentucky. In his role as equipping minister here at Tempe, Steve works to equip individuals to tell the story of Jesus to others and prepare people to mentor and disciple others. Steve is the primary preaching and teaching minister at Tempe Church, sharing messages in our morning worship assemblies.
Steve's wife Daltrey is a Nurse Practitioner specializing in Gastroenterology and she has been working as Assistant Professor of Nursing at Western Kentucky University. Together they have parented a blended family of five children, two sons Caleb and Raygen, three daughters Peyton, Tatum, and Logan, ranging in age from eight to eighteen. He has enjoyed twenty years of ministry and holds a bachelor’s in ministry and master’s in communication. For the past twenty years he has joined in the Spirit’s work of telling the greatest story ever told; the story of God’s Love.
Steve
loves to tell the story of Jesus to people from all generations and
all cultures. He has encountered God’s work, the past two decades,
among many beautiful people from as far away as Jamaica and Honduras;
to those moving to the United States from Burma, Korea, and Mexico.
He has enjoyed sharing God’s message of hope with the faithful and
the skeptical. He remains convicted that church families must
come together, across generations and cultures, to develop a simple
and natural framework of relational outreach to our communities.
We must remember that the Spirit of God is at work in hearts and minds of
our postmodern world.
God has a divine appointment for each of us to tell the story of Jesus. Let us remember the words of Paul to the Colossian church, “Pray for us, that God will open a door for the Word”.
Blake W. Jones, Connecting Minister
After moving to Tempe from Nashville, Tennessee to begin graduate school, Blake became part of the Tempe Church family in August 2007. He started working with the college students and young adults at Tempe Church in September 2008. In August 2009, the shepherds named him interim minister as the church sought a new lead minister. In May 2010, Blake assumed a new role as connecting minister with responsibilities in coordinating campus/young adults ministry, small groups ministry, adult education, and website administration, areas that emphasize connecting people into smaller groups in the church body.
Blake is a PhD student in the School of Historical, Philosophical, and Religious Studies at Arizona State University where he is researching for his dissertation about religious counterrevolution and American foreign policy during the Carter administration. His academic interests include
American foreign relations, religious history, global history, Southern
history, and the history of country music. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Social Studies at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY in May 2007. While at WKU, Blake was an active member in the Hilltoppers for Christ campus ministry at Greenwood Park Church of Christ.
His ministerial interests include campus ministry, outreach to the postmodern community, promoting social justice in churches, and missional church organization. Blake’s hobbies include reading history and spiritual books, going to Arizona Cardinals games, playing fantasy football, finding eclectic restaurants with great food, and playing Madden.
Blake is convicted by the words of the Old Testament prophet Micah: "Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, And don't take yourself too seriously—take God seriously" (Micah 6:8 from The Message)
Diane Jensen, Office Administrator
Diane was born in Wichita, Kansas and
raised in Kansas City, Missouri. She received a degree in Elementary
Education from Northwest Missouri State University and a Master’s
Degree in Teaching from Webster’s University. She taught second
grade for 13 years before her husband’s job required a change of
location.
After moving around the country (Missouri, Montana, Tennessee, Alabama,
Kansas and Utah!), Diane and her family settled in the Ahwatukee
Foothills
of Phoenix and then, yet one more move to Chandler. She has a
son in Oregon, another in Utah and a daughter in Phoenix.
After visiting several churches in the
area, Diane was happy to discover the Tempe church and soon became part
of the church family. She has been the church office administrator
since 2007 and loves the opportunities it provides to get to know so
many people desiring to follow Christ and bring his message to others.
Diane enjoys crafts of all kinds
including,
but not limited to, sewing, cross stitch, making cards, decorating
clothing
and shoes with crystals, calligraphy, and photography. She would
like to add hiking, running, and workouts to her list of activities,
but so far there is little movement in that regard. A mid-life
crisis produced a puppy in the household and life will never be the
same.
Diane believes that knowing Jesus brings joy to your life! The children often sing a song on their way out to Children’s Worship and she loves the words—“I will rejoice for He has made me glad”. Jesus’ love is with us always. (Matthew 28: 20)
