About Us
“REACHING UP, REACHING IN, REACHING OUT”
A Mission and Vision for the Tempe Church
In the Great Commission, Jesus commanded the apostles to “…go and make disciples of all nations…” (Matthew 28:19). Tempe Church is dedicated to this Great Commission by reaching up, reaching in, and reaching out.
“Reaching Up” through worship and living a life that emulates Jesus
“Reaching In” through fostering authentic community and mature discipleship
“Reaching Out” through service and witness to our community, nation, and world
Benchmarks of Vision and Mission
“Reaching Up” through consistent engagement in worship assemblies to glorify God
“Reaching In” through belonging to a small group family and working with one another to become better disciples
“Reaching Out” through involvement with outreach activities and ministries
Core Values
Missional in purpose (1 Corinthians 9:24-27)
Unity through diversity (Romans 14:1, 19-20)
Compassion and reconciliation (Matthew 9:35-37)
Individual and collective spiritual formation (Romans 12:1-2)
Truth through Jesus (John 8:31-32)
Community embeddedness (1 Corinthians 9:19-23)
Process
We ask our members, existing and new, to commit to all three parts of the vision and mission by consistent assembly involvement, belonging to a small group, and participating in at least one ministry
Expected Outcome
The mission and vision of Tempe Church will hopefully address meeting needs of more spiritual development, service opportunities, and community involvement. We should see our church become even more diverse as ASU students and postmodern people in the neighborhoods surrounding us become involved in our congregation in different ways. Thus, we will have a spectrum of members ranging from people with deep roots in traditional churches of Christ to people who have no church background and are just learning about Jesus. We will have a diversity in our church that emphasizes meeting people where they are rather than expecting them to become exactly like us. The ultimate goal of this diversity is mutual edification and reciprocal relationships among all. We have a common goal in mind, Jesus, although we come to that goal from different directions.
